Burleson is in both Johnson and Tarrant Counties and has a population of more than 57,000. The settlement of what is now Burleson began as part of the expansion of the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad from Denison to Waco, when the segment near Fort Worth needed a midway depot between Fort Worth and Alvarodo.

The railroad purchased land for the community, with its first lot being sold on Oct. 10, 1880, which is now celebrated as the city’s founding day. A fire in 1885 that burned down much of the business district didn’t stop growth. By the end of the 1880s, Burleson had grown to include, along with the railroad, many farms, along with schools, a general store, a bank, cotton gins, grist mills, a druggist, a jeweler, and a grocery store.

Today, Burleson is a suburb of Fort Worth, with businesses ranging from H.E.B. to Jellystone RV Ranch/Pirates Cove being major employers.
